The YouTube Channels That Got Me Through 2020

As you may have heard, this year was a rough one.

I don’t believe I’ve ever spent so much time by myself —or watching YouTube.

But it wasn’t all bad. Thanks to some outstanding creators on the platform, I never felt completely alone. And although I’m emerging from 2020 with a serious YouTube addiction, I think there are worse vices in which to find comfort.

So here are some YouTube channels from my subscription list that made me laugh, learn and even grow as a human being during this crazy ol’ pandemic.

Psychology in Seattle

Psychology in Seattle helped me tremendously in regulating my emotions and anxiety during 2020. Dr. Kirk Honda, a licensed therapist and a professor, has taught me to prioritize my mental health and to be kinder to myself and others “because we deserve it. We really, really do.”

If you’re a psychology student or enthusiast or someone who wants to know more about therapy options, Psychology in Seattle is one of the best free resources out there.

Dr. Honda is best known for his long-running podcast of the same name, but during the pandemic he has significantly grown his audience through reaction videos to reality TV shows. Many of his podcast episodes are also on YouTube.
